Frequently Asked Questions:
What can I do to stay healthy?
The answer lies in a combination of things. First of all, eat well. Maintaining a healthy diet is the foundation that every thing else is built upon. Secondly, exercise regularly. Even thirty minutes of walking three times a week will improve your overall well being. Lastly, although just as important, keep your scheduled appointments with your physician. Use these opportunities to maintain your goals, voice your concerns, and develop a plan to ensure your continued health
Could you suggest a good diet?
Depending on your stage of life and health goals, a variety of diets may be appropriate. As a general rule, it’s best to avoid foods high in fat and cholesterol. Replace fattier meats, like beef, with lean meats, like chicken or fish. Of course, grilled is better for you than fried. Incorporating fresh fruits and vegetables, either with meals or as snacks, will help keep you full and avoid reaching for chips or other poor substitutes. Finally, drink plenty of water. The Institute of Medicine recommends 2.2 liters (or about nine cups) of fluids per day. Choosing water over soft drinks eliminates sugar and empty calories, and keeps your kidneys flushed.
